Assessing Hazard Potential of Select Chemicals using Computational Toxicology Models

چکیده
Release of potentially persistent, bioaccumulative and inherently toxic chemicals into the environment may cause adverse effects to plants animals. Hundreds thousands are manufactured each year experimentally assessing them for these parameters is costly, time consuming requires animal testing. To address concerns there has been a paradigm shift in adoption computational chemistry toxicology methods environmental risks posed by such chemicals. These computer-based harness power fast processors, high speed internet, statistical methods, curated toxicological databases fulfil this need. In work summary selected publicly available models presented. Global regulatory agencies apply predictive support their decisions. Indian bodies too could benefit from exercise identifying ecotoxicological concern taking an appropriate decision thereby protecting environment.

Nature's chemicals and synthetic chemicals: comparative toxicology.
The toxicology of synthetic chemicals is compared to that of natural chemicals, which represent the vast bulk of the chemicals to which humans are exposed. It is argued that animals have a broad array of inducible general defenses to combat the changing array of toxic chemicals in plant food (nature's pesticides) and that these defenses are effective against both natural and synthetic toxins. Computational prediction of the chromosome-damaging potential of chemicals.
We report on the generation of computer-based models for the prediction of the chromosome-damaging potential of chemicals as assessed in the in vitro chromosome aberration (CA) test. On the basis of publicly available CA-test results of more than 650 chemical substances, half of which are drug-like compounds, we generated two different computational models. The first model was realized using th...
